Title: College for the Introverts: How to Stand Out and Excel in a World Made for Extroverts
Description: If you prefer to sit in the quiet corner of a party rather than being the center of the attention, you are not alone. You are an introvert, and there are many of us like that! You are introspective and curious. You enjoy time alone. You tend to be self aware. You tend to think things through your head before you speak. You are exhausted by large social gatherings. For introverts, the transition to college may be a bit daunting. Large lecture halls packed with hundreds of students. New social situations to navigate. Being constantly surrounded by roommates, flatmates, and random strangers. All of this can be overwhelming, but you will have the inner strength to pull through...and thrive! I will share my experiences studying at University of California, San Diego--a big campus with over 25,000 students-- where despite the struggles I found ways to stave off the feeling of loneliness, make new friends, and connect with mentors who helped me find my passion. In addition to sharing my stories, we will also do some fun role plays, and practice some self-affirming techniques. All are welcome to attend this session, whether you are an introvert or not. Extroverts, please join us too! We can use your funny comments to interrupt our quiet pondering.
